2 For L.A.

Two GM convertibles with "Resto Rod" treatment.  Both belong to the client who commissioned this picture.  Done in colored ink, with prismacolor pencil on the background.

This is a photo of the original, with some unfortunate shadowing on the right side of the piece.

Addams & Aston

Charles Addams was the cartoonist whose work was the basis for "The Addams Family" TV show.  Addams was also a rabid car guy.  In the late 1960's, he bought the 1933 Aston Martin LeMans that had belonged to my friend Charlie Turner.  I had the good fortune to later meet Addams at an Aston Martin club meet in Pennsylvania.  This depicts Addams and the Aston at his house on Long Island.

The 1st Squire of Zethrin

In the mid 1930's, Adrian Squire built seven exquisite automobiles before going bankrupt.  Enter Val Zethrin, one of Squires original buyers.  Zethrin bought the company and assembled three more cars.  This is the first of those cars.  Coachwork was by Corsica Body Works.  This car sold at auction last year at Amelia Island for just under a million dollars.

Side Car

The classic coctail from the '20s and how it came to be. The write up is from a nice Automobile Quarterly article by Stan Grayson. I have always liked the story and think Amilcars are really neat. The girl gives guys who really aren't into cars something to look at. This was done in colored ink, with a blow up of Grayson's article pasted in.

Bugatti Girl #6

This Type 57SC Atalante Coupe was part of the fabulous Harrah's automobile collection in Reno. The Atalante name comes from the Greek Goddess, legendary for her beauty and fleetness of foot. The car was rendered in colored ink and the girl in prismacolor pencil.

Guns, Girls & Bootleg Booze

In the years just before World War II, the cars most moonshine runners drove were 1938 through 1940 Ford V8s. The solid axle transverse sprung cars just out handled most soft sprung cars with independent front suspension. I had been thinking about doing a picture of a bootleggers coupe for a good while. I just needed a good story idea. One day, I was sitting on a stool in my favorite bar, when a girl I knew walked by wearing a long white old west duster! Stacy was perfect for the picture that was taking shape in my head. So while Stacy stands guard as the white whiskey is unloaded--here is Guns, Girls & Bootleg Booze.
